"...and according to his chat log, he thought he was meeting a 14 year old boy."
Those words, spoken by NBC10 news reporter Harry Hairston during the March 3, 2004 broadcast of the 11 o'clock news, sent a shock-wave through the wrestling world. Caught on tape arriving to and fleeing from a bust house that he allegedly believed was the residence of a 14 year old boy named Brandon, Rob Feinstein's life would forever be changed on that March day.
The story of Rob Feinstein is a bizarre, often contradictory one. The video company which he created, RF Video, was founded on flagrant and serial copyright infringement of video footage from around the World, yet Feinstein has always been obsessed with protecting his own footage and product. The very people he has had the greatest contempt for, internet wrestling fans and message board posters, are the same people who he has marketed all of his products to. Even the bust brought about another contradiction: Feinstein had long bragged about women he'd had sexual relations with, yet there he was on the doorstep of a house he thought belonged to a young boy. Simply put, there has always been something off about Rob Feinstein. The only consistent thing about Feinstein has always been that his successes always come with mistakes and failures. It was only a matter of time before his biggest success, the formation of Ring of Honor, was eclipsed by failure.
The birth of Ring of Honor by Feinstein and his colleagues became a necessity when Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) ceased operations, which was a large blow to RF Video. The company relied on a deal with ECW that allowed them to not only tape most of their live events, but it also allowed them to sell their product to the hundreds, if not thousands, of fans that would be in attendance at those events on any given weekend. Attempts were made to substitute ECW with a variety of independent groups, with upstart promotion Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) being the most successful. The relationship with CZW saw RF Video book and pay, out of their own pocket, several ex-ECW wrestlers in an effort to appeal to the customers they were losing as a result of ECW closing. During this same period CZW had made a deal with small video company Smart Mark Video (SMV) to tape and distribute their live events. As both video companies each taped and sold their own versions of CZW events, attempts were made by RF Video to buy into the company. CZW owner John Zandig wasn't interested, likely because the SMV deal was more beneficial. While RF Video would pay a flat fee to tape and sell an event, SMV would set up profit sharing deals with organizations allowing for more financial gains. Most organizations simply didn't trust Feinstein enough to do similar deals with him.
The relationship with CZW quickly fizzled and Feinstein's company was in the same position it was in before. Looking at what worked and what didn't, inspiration came from two different sources: First was the critical praise that tournaments like the "Super 8" and the "King of the Indies" were receiving. These tournaments took some of the best wrestlers from around the country and matched them together in matches that were unique and exciting. Tapes of the events though weren't widely distributed, which meant they weren't seen by many fans outside of those that were in attendance. RF Video could change that. The second inspiration came from a few key members from the roster of Jersey All Pro Wrestling, an organization based in North Jersey that RF Video taped. Once a blood and guts company, Jersey All Pro Wrestling's hardcore style had become targeted by the state of New Jersey and was banned. Forced to change their product they began emphasizing hard hitting and high flying wrestlers like Low-Ki, Homicide, and Da Hit Squad (Mafia and Monsta Mack), all of whom would become centerpieces in the early days of RF Video's venture into promoting wrestling events. The merging of the two ideas led to Ring of Honor, which held their first event on February 23, 2002, in Philadelphia, PA.
Ring of Honor was, at the time of the bust, a critical success but not a financial one. Feinstein's stature in wrestling though had improved and grown from the low point of the '90s where his antics on internet message boards and the overall quality of his product had turned much of the wrestling community against him. On the day he walked up the steps leading to the bust house he was the owner of arguably the second or third largest wrestling organization in the United States and with the help of financial backer Cary Silken, things could only go up from there. Things were going good for him but that would all change the moment a door opened and he found himself on the other side of the camera lens.
The reaction was swift. Fans and wrestling personalities began to distance themselves from Feinstein. Within a day Feinstein had announced he was leaving Ring of Honor and RF Video, though suspicions that he remained involved were high despite the insistence of those involved with the companies. Feinstein himself was telling people that he was still owner, that he was just laying low and that they were just waiting for things to blow over, which just added to the confusion. The general feeling among the wrestlers was that he was still involved, but they weren't sure. Confirmation that he was still involved came in June when Ring of Honor finally severed its ties with Feinstein and RF Video after he was bought out of his Ring of Honor ownership. RF Video would remain his, though by this time the company had little value without the Ring of Honor library and with all the negative attention it had received.
Today Feinstein relies on shoot interviews and the rights he retains to the ECW library as his primary means of making a profit. RF Videos financial situation is unknown, though Feinstein claims that it's doing better than ever, a questionable claim considering the rise in piracy of his products and the negative image he has in the wrestling community, not to mention his history of dishonesty. The company operates with a barebones staff, a far cry from the Ring of Honor days, and signs of cost cutting can be seen in releases where events are taped with two cameras but only one camera operator, among other things. Web traffic has dropped 38.9% in the last year alone, according to web traffic analyst www.compete.com. Most independent groups have opted to go with companies like Smart Mark Video, which both produces and distributes events, or have decided to self release, which has also been a blow to RF Video business. Even one of Feinstein's biggest supporters has gone this route when deciding on how he was going to release his all women shows.
Feinstein has attempted to get involved in running wrestling events again, though each venture to date has failed. His image among those in wrestling is generally negative, though he has found no shortage of people willing to work for him if the money is right. There is also a significant number of people who either believe he was set up or simply don't care. His first attempt at getting back involved in running shows was with Pro Wrestling Unplugged (PWU). PWU and RF Video released a joint statement on June 28, 2005, stating that RF Video was now a partial owner of PWU, however just hours later PWU would back track and announce that they weren't. The relationship quickly fizzled, and Feinstein was soon involved in another organization, Pro Wrestling Elite. The first event Feinstein was involved with had to switch venues on the day of the show when the original building the event was to be held in was bombarded by calls and faxes about Feinstein's involvement. The show though did take place, in front of a couple dozen people, and was, as expected, a failure. Pro Wrestling Elite would go on to run two more shows before its demise. Feinstein would yet again get another chance to become involved in a promotion when Velocity Pro Wrestling brought him in as booker in the fall of 2008. His involvement wouldn't even last a show as the two sides parted ways before what was supposed to be his first event.
For five years Feinstein has alternated between claiming innocence and pretending like the NBC10 incident never happened. Defenders say that he was never charged with anything stemming from the incident. They are right, he hasn't. He also hasn't followed through with the legal action he said he'd be taking against NBC10 and Perverted-Justice, the same legal action he used as an excuse for not answering certain questions about the incident. Personally, if I was wrongly accused of trying to solicit sex from a minor on an NBC affiliate in the fourth largest television market in the country, I'd do everything I could possibly do to clear my name. To date the only interviews he's given about the issue were to a site in which he is a heavy advertiser on. Is this irrefutable evidence that he is guilty? No, but are we to ignore the video, the chat transcript or the fact that the Perverted-Justice group that assisted in the Feinstein bust has helped convict 318 child predators since June 2004? Rob Feinstein will not be convicted for his actions in a court of law, but what about the court of public opinion? You be the judge on that one.

A "Group Media Bust" is an agreement where a media outlet rents a house or apartment, gives our site the information, and we work chatrooms as underage individuals, sending overage individuals to the house to meet the cameras and be exposed for their acts.
At roughly ten PM on February 29th, Perverted-Justice.com contributor "Jay Alternative" messaged the owner of Perverted-Justice.com inquiring for information on wrestling due to an individual messaging him online who represented himself as a wrestler. What followed is a story that is amazing, even to ourselves at Perverted-Justice.com.
Ring of Honor owner Rob Feinstein had messaged "Jay Alternative" in an Philadelphia AOL homosexual chatroom and responded favorably to the idea of meeting a 14 year old boy for immoral purposes. The conversations span two days, and two phone calls. Both individuals who had contact with Rob Feinstein while under the auspices of being a 14 year old boy named Brandon are not wrestling fans. They know very little about wrestling. And they had no clue who Rob Feinstein was until he came across our volunteers. Rob Feinstein was not targeted by our organization. Instead, he ended up targeting one of our contributors and is now paying for that decision.
Rob Feinstein showed up at our Group Media Bust door to meet NBC Philadelphia reporter Harry Harriston the day after he initiated the conversation with "Brandon". This occured on March 1st. Feinstein ran to his silver Lexus, and peeled off from the scene of the meeting. This was all captured on camera.
Confirmation that the individual is indeed Rob Feinstein was performed by the investigative team at NBC10, who used video analysis and a license plate lookup to make sure that they had the right man. Every safeguard was taken in the two days since Rob Feinstein made his Philadelphia media appearance to know without a doubt that the person involved was Rob Feinstein before this happening was made public by our website.
