NWS Results From Union, NJ 8/21: Eight-Man Main Event Mayhem Featuring Former WWE Oddity Giant Silva & Former ECW Zombie, WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez Defends Her Title In A Triple-Threat Match, Two NWS Champions Go Title-For-Title, And More

It was a hot and humid and thunderstorm-filled Friday night August 21st. But that didn't stop a near-sellout crowd from filling up the Union, NJ Elks Lodge to see the return of National Wrestling Superstars to that very popular Union County venue for the first half of a double-shot weekend, and it ended up being a hotter night inside than out.

In the opening match, Baghdad Bullies member Prince Cam-el-Toe (with manager King Rama Lama Dung Heap) defeated The Illegal Outer Space Alien. The much larger Alien controlled most of the match, but the King made the difference in the end with a well-placed cane shot to the Alien's "nether regions", followed by a roll-up by the Prince for the 1-2-3.

Women's Champion "The Latina Sensation" Mercedes Martinez retained her title in a Triple-Threat Match against Hailey Hatred and Jessica Havok, with former ECW and Women's Champion Angel Orsini as guest referee. Before the match, Hailey and Hatred offered to give Angel the very first title shot if she would help them unseat Mercedes as champion. Angel appeared tempted for a moment, but then gave no answer and ordered the match started. The match was basically a two-on-one affair with Havok and Hatred united in their quest to defeat Mercedes. Angel called the match right down the middle, and Mercedes eventually battled back and cleanly pinned Hailey with a brainbuster to retain the title. Havok got in Angel's face after the match, outraged that Angel had refused the deal, and received a Kiss Of Death from Angel in response.

In a Title-for-Title Match, NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "Disco" Nicky Oceans and NWS Jersey Shore Heavyweight Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest fought to a time-limit draw. The two NWS veterans had the fans on the edge of their seats with high-flying and hard-hitting moves from the get-go. After countless near falls from both men, Quest had Oceans down for the count after a flying dropkick when the bell rang, and the match was declared a draw. Quest asked for five more minutes, but Oceans declared that he doesn't do overtime, and left the ring. His exit from the arena was blocked by Commissioner Gino Moore, who announced that Oceans and Quest would have a rematch the next night in Basking Ridge, NJ.

In a handicap match, Nigerian Nightmare #1 (with managers "Voodoo Princess" Sheeta & King Rama Lama Dung Heap) defeated B. Fehrm & Botchagalup The Banana Boy. (Nightmare #2 was rumored to have been detained at Newark Airport after trying to eat a Customs agent.) The King attempted to bring out Danny Demanto & Bryan Harley & Rick Cataldo & Sean Hanson to ringside with him, claiming they were "career advisors", but Commissioner Moore would have none of that and ordered them back to the dressing room under the threat of being pulled from their main event match. Despite a brave effort from Fehrm and Banana Boy, they were the ones who were handicapped in this match, as they were dominated by Nightmare #1, who squashed them both in the corner before doing an over-the-rope leg drop on both of them and covering them for the pin. The King called out for his four banished henchmen to return to ringside and continue the assault on Fehrm and Banana Boy, which they did until their main event opponents, the former WWE Oddity Giant Silva & the former ECW Zombie & Goal-Duh & Ryan Angus, ran out and chased them off.

In a battle of the big men, Mr. Nick Gregory (with Brooke Carter) and Major Disaster fought to a double countout. Major Disaster was the much bigger of the two, and he dominated most of the match. but Nick Gregory hung in there, and their brawl eventually spilled to the outside where they fought until the referee counted them both out.

Before the next match, former WWE developmental protégé and one-time NWS competitor "Too Cocky" Kevin Matthews came out to the ring. (Matthews, for those who might not remember, lost a "Loser Leaves NWS" match months ago to former WWE star "America's Hero" The Patriot.) He berated the fans for cheering at his departure and failure with WWE developmental, and clearly wanted to return to competition in NWS. Commissioner Moore announced that Matthews would indeed have his return opportunity in September in Sayreville, NJ, when he and Danny Demanto would team up against The New Samoans (King Nagu & former WWE Headshrinkers member Samu).

In a grudge match. J.D. Smoothie defeated "Too Hot" Steve Scott. These two high-flying cruiserweights dazzled the crowd with high-flying moves, with neither being able to put the other away. In the end, it took underhanded tactics by Smoothie... after Scott delivered a press slam to Smoothie, Smoothie grabbed his knee in pain, claiming it had been injured. While the referee was examining Smoothie's knee, Nicky Oceans snuck into the ring and leveled Scott with a superkick. Smoothie miraculously rose to his feet and covered Scott for the three-count. After the match, Scott challenged either Smoothie or Oceans to meet him one-on-one in the ring the next time NWS returns to the area.

In a two-out-of-three falls eight-man tag-team main event, former WWE Oddity Giant Silva & the former ECW Zombie & Goal-Duh (with Cartman) & Ryan Angus were victorious two falls to one over the Unholy Alliance of "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto & Bryan Harley & Sean "Ref" Hanson & "Sweet" Rick Cataldo (with manager King Rama Lama Dung Heap). This match was a totally insane affair from start to finish. Bryan Harley actually scored the first pinfall for his team, hitting Ryan Angus with a full-nelson facebuster for the three-count, putting the Unholy Alliance up 1-0. Angus managed to eventually tag in Zombie, who cleaned house, leveled Hanson with a DDT, then attacked Cataldo and bit him repeatedly on the backside (obviously convinced that was where Cataldo's brains were) before covering him for the three-count to even the falls at 1-1. The match then broke down completely as all eight men battled inside and ouside the ring, and in the mayhem Silva leveled Demanto with a chokeslam and Angus leveled Hanson with a Diamond Cutter, and the referee counted both Silva's and Angus' pinfalls to give Silva's team the victory 2-1.

NWS continues with the second half of their double-shot weekend at Basking Ridge, NJ's St. James Church Gym on Saturday night August 22nd, with an appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. NWS will then return to action on Friday night September 18th with another "Wrestling Stars Under The Stars" outdoor show at the Knights of Columbus Showgrounds in Sayreville, NJ, featuring former WWE Headshrinkers member Samu, then their annual three free shows as part of the Edison, NJ Fall Family Festival September 25th-26th, headlined by former WWE superstar George "The Animal" Steele.
