FWF Results From "A New Year Of Funk" In Christiana, DE 1/31: Former WWE Oddity The Giant Silva Takes On Four Opponents At Once, Former ECW Star Billy Wiles Vs. Funky White Boy, The Nigerian Nightmares Vs. Dark Karnival, And More As FWF Kicks Off 2010 In Style
Funkdafied Wrestling Federation, the Delaware-based affiliate of the Northeast's leading family-friendly promotion National Wrestling Superstars, kicked off its 2010 schedule with "A New Year Of Funk" on Sunday afternoon January 31st at the Christiana, DE Fire Company Hall. A good and excited crowd of FWF fans came out to see how everything old (school) was new again.
Before the show began, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smooth came out to welcome the FWF fans to a new year of FWF. His enthusiasm was quickly doused when he was informed by FWF General Manager Gino Moore that he would not be wrestling this afternoon. Moore informed Smooth that his contract only guaranteed him an appearance at the show, not a match, but instead of wrestling, Smooth would be serving as a referee, and would be watched closely to make sure he called his matches down the middle.
In the opening contest, Lumberjack Monroe defeated "The Real Deal" Mike Goldstein. Goldstein, making his FWF debut, showed plenty of heart but was outpowered by the larger veteran Monroe, and out-cheated as well as Monroe pinned Goldsteain with a rollup and a handful of tights.
Mad Dog came out to the ring, still on crutches. He said he was not sure when he'd be returning, and talked about how his former partner Ruff Ryder had betrayed him. This brought out Ruff Ryder and former ECW star "Beautiful" Billy Wiles. After brushing off Mad Dog, Wiles called out The Fighting Elvis and chastised him for copying his gimmick with the Elvis jacket. When Wiles challenged Elvis to give up the gimmick, he refused, and Ruff and Wiles attacked him and Mad Dog. Funky White Boy ran out from the back to try and even the odds, but was double-teamed by Ruff and Wiles. The entire FWF locker room emptied out to separate the combatants. Funky White Boy appealed to FWF General Manager Gino Moore for a one-on-one match against Billy Wiles, and Moore granted it for later in the afternoon.
In tag-team action, the odd pair of Evan Nemo & Shane Bliss upset Black 'N Nerdy (Fro Bro & B. Fehrm). After a back and forth match, Fro Bro was on th verge of putting away Bliss when Fehrm unexpectedly tagged himself in, then went to the top rope for a flying splash, but Bliss caught him in a Michinoku Driver and pinned him for the victory. An upset Fro Bro attacked Fehrm after the match, leveling him with an RKO and leaving the ring in disgust, saying it was time for him to make it on his own.
Ruff Ryder (with former ECW star "Beautiful" Billy Wiles) defeated Delaware's Wrestling Blue Hen Clucky McCluckerson. J.D. Smooth referee'd his first match of the afternoon. The larger Clucky showed a lot of pluck and out-powered Ryder, but Wiles being in Ryder's corner was the deciding factor... when Clucky attempted to suplex Ryder into the ring after the two brawled outside, Wiles tripped him up, and Ryder fell on top of him and held him down for the three-count.
Dark Karnival (Jo-Jo & Chio) won by disqualification over The Nigerian Nightmares (with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeda). J.D. Smooth referee'd this match as well. Dark Karnival returned to FWF action after a long absence, and were able to surprisingly match the Nightmares in power. After a long brawl inside and outside the ring, referee Smooth attempted to separate Jo-Jo and one of the Nightmares brawling in the corner, and was shoved away. He immediately called for the bell and gave Dark Karnival the win by disqualification. The Nightmares were, to say the least, not pleased, and squashed Smooth between them in a Nigerian Sandwich.
Funky White Boy defeated former ECW star "Beautiful" Billy Wiles (with Ruff Ryder). The high-flying favorite Funky kept pace with the veteran Wiles, and in this match, Wiles' cornerman proved to be his own undoing... as Wiles held Funky for Ryder to knock out, Funky ducked and Ryder leveled Wiles instead, allowing Funky to cover Wiles for the three-count.
In the main event, former WWE superstar The Giant Silva won a handicap "Gullivers Travels" Match over Goat Boy & Tiger Mask & Manny Perez & Ole Skool (managed by J.D. Smooth, still in pain from being sandwiched by the Nigerian Nightmares). The object of the match was for the four seemingly Lilliputian-sized opponents to pin Silva inside a giant fishnet. At first, each member of Smooth's team tried to take on the 7-foot-5 behemoth one-on-one, and each one was flattened in turn. Eventually, they all ganged up on Silva together, and were actually able to flip him over the top rope and out of the ring. But that only made the Giant angry (and trust me, you don't want to make a 7-foot-5 400+ pound giant angry at you), and he attacked all four opponents and scattered them around the ring. Eventually, when his team members gave up in frustration, Smooth himself entered the ring and charged all of his 150-pound frame at Silva (give him points for bravery at least, brains not withstanding). Silva leveled Smooth with a clothesline and a chokeslam, then climbed up to the top rope and delivered a thundering 400+ pound flying splash onto Smooth, covered him for the 1-2-3, and then wrapped his nearly lifeless body in the fishnet and carried him off in victory.
