Combat Zone Wrestling returned last night to The Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a doubleheader.

Afternoon event:

  1. Sami Callihan defeated the Necro Butcher via submission.
  2. Devon Moore defeated Eddie Kingston via pinfall following a superkick.
  3. D.J. Hyde defeated Joe Gacy via pinfall after a lariat.
  4. Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya & C.J. Esparza) defeated The Spanish Armada (L.J. Cruz & Alex Colon) via pinfall.
  5. Drew Gulak & Ryan Slater defeated Tyler Veritas & Adam Cole via pinfall when Gulak pinned Veritas.
  6. Drake Younger defeated Drew Blood via pinfall in an Ultraviolent Grudge Match.
  7. Danny Havoc defeated tHURTeen via pinfall after a Death Valley Driver on thumbtacks. Brain Damage attacked Havoc after the match until Scotty Vortekz made the save.

Notes & Thoughts:

  • D.J. Hyde announced the company would return to television next month.
  • Necro Butcher & Eddie Kingston worked early in the card so they could get to New York City in time for the evening's Ring of Honor show.
  • The Opportunity Knocks match between Jonathan Gresham and A.R. Fox did not happen because Delta Airlines canceled all flights out of Atlanta, Georgia. A.R. Fox was able to get on another flight, however Gresham was not. The decision was made to place Fox into the other match with Aaron Arbo and Andy Harner.
  • Zero Gravity were said to have looked impressive.
  • tHURTeen is also known as Lucky and Kevin Papics.

Evening event:

  1. Irish Drive-by (Ryan McBride & Rich Swann) defeated The Switchblade Conspiracy (Sami Callihan & Joe Gacy) when McBride pinned Gacy following a 450 splash.
  2. Aaron Arbo defeated "Unbreakable" Andy Harner and A.R. Fox in a three-way.
  3. Champions The Best Around (Bruce Maxwell & T.J. Cannon) defeated Team Macktion (T.J. & Kirby Mack) to retain the CZW Tag Team Championship when Cannon pinned Kirby.
  4. J.C. Bailey defeated Drake Younger by pinfall after a brainbuster onto an open chair.
  5. Nick Gage defeated D.J. Hyde in an Unlucky 13 Staple Gun Match.
  6. Sabian defeated Champion Greg Excellent, Drew Blood, Devon Moore, Adam Cole, and Egotistico Fantastico to win the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship after pinning Excellent. Cole was also pinning Fantastico at the time of the pinfall, however Sabian was awarded the match.
  7. Brain Damage & tHURTeen defeated Danny Havoc & Scotty Vortekz when Brain Damage pinned Havoc.
  8. Nick Gage won a battle royal to win a title shot at any title of his choosing, at any time of his choosing.
  9. Jon Moxley defeated Champion B-Boy by pinfall to win the CZW Heavyweight Championship. Nick Gage came to the ring to cash in his title shot, however Moxley fled.

Notes & Thoughts:

  • The company is in a re-building phase right now, with a new emphasis on elevating more talent and bringing in fresh faces.
  • Concerns over talent cuts are pretty much unfounded. Some talent is not currently being used, however they could return at any time.
  • Fans, wrestlers, and management alike were blown away by the performances of Aaron Arbo, "Unbreakable" Andy, and especially A.R. Fox. A very impressive debut for all three of these guys, and arguably the match of the night.
  • Team Macktion also continues to impress, and are fitting in well with the rest of the roster.
  • Adam Cole is being elevated after spending quite a bit of time on the pre-show and lower card. Look for him to be a permanent fixture in the junior heavyweight mix since he has really improved over the last year.
  • Some fans were disappointed in B-Boy losing the title after only 2 weeks of holding it, but Jon Moxley has a lot of buzz and momentum right now and B-Boy doesn't need the belt. B-Boy has really been the MVP of the company since his return, which is probably why he was given the belt during this transitional period in the company. Right now I think he's best suited to help elevate talent, while still remaining in the title picture.
  • The show overall was considered to be very good.
