On Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7, 12-3 pm, Independent Wrestling Federation hosts its 10th Annual Open House Weekend at IWF Centre, 32 Willow Way, West Paterson, NJ. Established in 1999, IWF Pro Wrestling School trains hundreds of prospects from 16 states and six countries that compete in bouts across the world. During the open house, potential students get an up-close look at wrestler training classes. IWF Heavyweight Champion Kevin Knight, head trainer and 13-year veteran, leads classes four days a week covering basic holds and high-flying moves. To supplement the year-round training program, IWF hosts clinics with major superstars and legends. Former WWE Champion John Bradshaw Layfield, WWE Florida Championship Wrestling Developmental head coach Dr. Tom Prichard, Hall of Famer Tito Santana, and The Legendary Honky Tonk Man appeared this year as guest instructors. "Kevin Knight does a great job of training future stars of sports-entertainment," said JBL, whose Layfield Energy Products are available at IWF Centre. "To make it in professional wrestling today is tough because there are no more minor leagues...this is why what Kevin does is the future of the sport. Kevin has the best facility and methods for training I have seen...I wish I had this when I started." 20 IWF graduates performed on WWE Raw and SmackDown TV and Pay-Per-Views. IWF Centre features a wrestling ring, weight-room, video classroom, and hosts monthly exhibitions where trainees showcase their skills for family and friends. "IWF impresses me in many ways," said Tom Prichard, IWF Clinic coach since 2002. "Kevin Knight and everyone involved are constantly looking for ways to improve and help their students be the best. I enjoy doing clinics at IWF because I know the students are hungry and looking to better themselves. Kevin has taught these students the respect for the business and this is why I would recommend his people for extras and training partners for WWE Superstars." IWF American Champion Damian Adams is scheduled for WWE Raw on December 1 in Washington, DC. Knight, Biggie Biggs, Tony Torres and Chris Steeler are scheduled for WWE SmackDown on December 30 at Izod Center, East Rutherford, NJ. "As IWF School enters its 10th year, they continue to provide top-notch training necessary to become a successful professional wrestler," said Honky Tonk Man, IWF Clinic coach since 2002. "Desire comes from the heart and Kevin Knight is passionate about making sure these students are aware of the dedication you must possess…both mentally and physically…to work hard every day to improve in the ring as a performer." IWF Commissioner Rich Ross heads the management team at USA Network and NBC Universal, partnering with WWE supervising Raw and ECW programming. Former WWE Diva Dawn Marie trained at IWF and had her first-ever match with IWF in 2001. Former IWF Tag Team Champion Marc Verow works for UFC Event Production Staff. “Wrestlers excel in the program and receive WWE tryout opportunities as a result of our first-rate training regimen coupled with our friendly and safe environment," Knight said. "Our top graduates literally circle the globe, traveling to Canada, Puerto Rico and Japan." IWF graduates also appear in the entertainment industry as Justin Corino, Tony Torres, Travis Blake and Matt Bennett starred on Nickelodeon television shows Danny Phantom Ultimate Enemy, and WACK Wrestling. Kev Kage headlined as Rangers hockey mascot Bobby Granger on MSG Network, while Knight starred in the Burger King Buckin' Chicken commercial.
