A Tale of Two Titles at Cage of Death XI!

By Jake Black for CZWrestling.com

EXCELLENT vs. BLOOD

The journey for Greg Excellent to a shot at the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship has been one that has required a lot of patience. Earlier this year, Excellent begged and pleaded to CZW officials to let him prove himself in the Junior Heavyweight Showcase known as ‘Best of the Best’. CZW Officials were leery, but Excellent earned his spot in Best of the Best IX defeating former two-time CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion and Best of the Best VI winner, Ruckus. Excellent didn’t win ‘Best of the Best IX‘, but “The Full Figured Junior Heavyweight” wouldn’t give up his dream of one day challenging for the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Following Best of the Best, Greg Excellent has been on a roll against Junior Heavyweight competition. Excellent was victorious at ‘A Tangled Web 2’ in an ‘Aerial Assault Match’, a match designed for Junior Heavyweights to display their athletic know-how. At ‘Severed Ties’, Excellent wouldn’t stop showing the world he was a Junior Heavyweight to be taken seriously when he defeated a former three-time Junior Heavyweight Champion and winner of the Second Annual Best of the Best, Trent Acid. Excellent’s momentum would only get stronger when he defeated former Junior Heavyweight Champion Ryan McBride at ‘Night of Infamy‘.

Drew Blood’s path to the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship has been a memorable one. Blood has battled back from injury to secure his name into CZW’s legacy.

During the opening round of ‘Best of the Best IX‘, Blood suffered an injury during a match with then CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion Ego Fantastico forcing Blood out the tournament. Fantastico promised Blood when he was healthy once again he could have his date with destiny against him for the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship. Blood missed nearly two months of action before he was able to challenge Fantastico at ‘A Tangled Web 2’ , this time in a ‘Ladder Match’. Fantastico retained, with Blood claiming to still have a shoulder injury. Why some in CZW were skeptical of this, Fantastico was not, and agreed to give Blood, “one last opportunity at 100%” at ‘Down with the Sickness Forever 2009’.

At ‘Down with the Sickness Forever 2009’, Blood and Fantastico engaged in an aggressive athletic contest for the Junior Heavyweight Championship. The battled was back and forth, and either man could have come out as the victor. Blood defeated Fantastico that night, but it wasn’t without controversy. Devon Moore, Blood’s long time friend, tag team partner and Notourious Inc. associate interfered while Blood and the referee were distracted, allowing Blood to pin Fantastico and fulfill his quest to be CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Since that time Blood has gone on to defeated former CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion Ryan McBride (with a little help from Devon Moore) and his long time friend “Prime Time” Teddy Fine. What’s interesting about the victory over Fine is that Blood was giving up nearly seven inches to Fine, and over forty pounds and was still able to beat Fine, will he be able to do the same to Excellent who has a a six inch height advantage and out weights Blood by over 80 pounds?

Both men have spent all of 2009 with one hope, one dream, and one achievement on their mind and that is to be CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion. Only one man can walk away with the gold, and we will find out who that is at Cage of Death XI in 18 days at The Arena in South Philly when Greg Excellent challenges Drew Blood for the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship.

DRAKE vs. SCUMBAG

The CZW World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands in 9 different cities, in 3 different states, in 5 different countries, and on 2 different continents. It has changed hands 30 different times, and has been held by 13 different competitors. The CZW World Championship is truly a world title that every athlete in CZW strives for, but few will ever capture.

Drake Younger has been CZW World Champion for 17 months. Drake is the longest reigning CZW World Champion in history, and the longest reigning and most dominate World Champion in North America. As champion Younger has  defended against and defeated Sami Callihan,  Sonjay Dutt, Trent Acid, Ruckus, Eddie Kingston, and B-Boy. Younger has truly been the epitome of a defeating champion.

Devon Moore has one goal in life. To be the best. To be the center of attention. To be the CZW World Champion. And he’ll stop at nothing to achieve this.  . At ‘Down with the Sickness Forever’, Moore was unable to come out the victor (Moore wasn’t pinned) in a 3-Way Dance for a shot at CZW World Championship against Younger. Despite only being defeated one time at The Arena all year (and that was to Younger in January) Moore knew that by being unable to win that 3-way, his hopes of receiving a CZW World Championship had been put on the backburner. Moore knew he had to catch Younger’s attention.

After Younger’s classic World Championship contest with B-Boy at ‘Severed Ties’, Moore went to confront Younger, but before Moore could issue the challenge Younger’s Naptown Dragons partner xOMGx challenged Moore to a match, and at ‘Tournament of Death: Rewind’ Moore defeated xOMGx and went on to unmask xOMGx disgracing xOMGx’s honor and catching the ire of Younger.  Moore wasn’t done there, at ‘Night of Infamy’, more defeated and then attacked Younger’s other Naptown Dragons tag team partner, Scotty Vortex.  Younger made the save for his partner, and the issue between Moore and Younger had escalated.

What will happen when two of the top athletes in CZW step in the ring to settle their personal issues with the CZW World Heavyweight Championship on the line? For Devon Moore to win the CZW Championship at Cage of Death XI, on the biggest show of the year, to end the most historic CZW World Title reign in history would make him the center of attention and would be redemption for his loss to Younger earlier this year. If Drake Younger can retain against Devon Moore it will make his historic title reign seem that much more impressive for a champion to be able to handle the pressure of defending the title at Cage of Death shows what kind of heart he has and what kind of determination runs through his veins.

In just 18 days at ‘Cage of Death XI’, Devon Moore challenges the longest reigning and most successful CZW World Champion of All-Time, Drake Younger for the CZW World Championship at The Arena in South Philly.
