NWL CARD AT CLEAR SPRING, MD., 4/21/95 by JEFF AMDUR

The final card of the current National Wrestling League season was put on by promoter Dick Caricofe at Clear Spring High School in Clear Spring, Md., about 20 miles west of Hagerstown. With my timekeeper's stopwatch in tow, I accompanied referee Howard Goldman on the journey from the Baltimore area.

Crowd estimates were put at 475 to 500, with the high school gym being about 80% full.

1) Six man tag match: Sid Sinister, Stevie Hendrickson and Kenny Rage pinned Switchblade, Bounty Hunter (not Max Thrasher), and Hollywood Bill Gregory in 7:09. I'm very literal here -- the three victors were on top of a six-man pile up.

2) Nikolai Volkoff, on (probably unpaid), leave from The Corporation, beat Morgus the Maniac by DQ in 13:58. The Maniac's continuous eliciting of the "USA! USA!" chant was making Nikolai crazy. Nikolai spent a lot of the match using a foreign object (which I guess would preclude his ever joining WCW), on Morgus. Morgus was finally able to wrest the object away from Volkoff and used it on him; but unfortunately the referee caught Morgus and disqualified him.

3) Timothy Arned won a twelve-man Battle Royal in 5:07.

4) "Dirty" Doug Deeds pinned Bastian Booger (managed by Shane Shadows), in 7:05. Shane's attempt to hit Deeds with Deeds' own hard hat backfired as it caught Booger instead and Deeds rolled up the 401-pound ex WWF-er for the pin. After the match, Booger turned on Shadows and both Booger and Deeds teamed up to beat the living Sh!t out of Shadows. Booger and Deeds then shook hands and I guess lived happily ever after.

5) Shane Shadows pinned yet another Wrestling Clown in 7:12. Shane's feet were on the second rope when he pinned D---k; but, as I said last month, who was I to alert the ref. to his mistake when my ride back to Columbia depends on said ref.?

6) Jimmy Snuka, looking as good as ever, pinned Metal Maniac after a Superfly leap in 11:46. Metal is chasing Snuka all over the country in search of that elusive victory. I guess he is the Washington Generals to Snuka's Harlem Globetrotters.

7) In the main event, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock and Roll Express, pinned the Executioners in 11:18. Ricky and Robert are facially and paunchily showing signs of age; but their wrestling is as good as it ever was. Their workrate is still terrific, all the old R&R moves were there, and their teamwork still impeccable.

This is it for another NWL season. Promoter Caricofe will put on some summer shows at fairs in the Maryland-West Virginia-Pennsylvania region. My next time keeping gig is Sunday, April 23 at the MEWF card in Essex, Md. If Dark Cheetah shows, she will post the results to RR; if not, I will.
