Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation - September 30, 1995 - Eldersburg, MD Print E-mail
Friday, September 29, 1995
Jeff the MEWF timekeeper presents the results from the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation card held at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, Md. on September 30.

As was the case the night before in Catonsville, there were two prominent no-shows, as Brutus Beefcake had broken his collarbone in the Nitro match last Monday and Brian "Roadie" Armstrong was who the hell knows where. STEVIE RICHARDS is again in attendance, coming down from Philly with his tag-team partner Raven, to watch the show. I hope someday the promoter puts him to work! Also in attendance but not wrestling is MEWF women's champion FANTASIA.

JOHNNY GUNN & ROCKIN' REBEL pinned CRASH & GLEN OSBORNE in 16:24. This is our second look at Osborne and Crash, well-know indie wrestlers who first appeared on the early September card at Bingo Bill's. You may have seen Crash (formerly Crash the Terminator) on this week's WCW shows, doing interviews as the Man From Nowhere. Manager ROYCE PROPHET comes out sporting a Johnny Gunn button and tells the crowd that he has reformed his evil ways and wants to manage Gunn & Rebel. Johnny and Rockin' give Penguin a definite thumbs down; but Royce decides to stay at ringside anyway, much to the chagrin of JG and RR. Wild match, great opener. A lot of in-the-ring and out-of-the-ring (or, as out-of-the-ring as one can get in Maryland) action. The outside action involved either Gunn or Rebel chasing Prophet around the ring. In a hectic finish, it's Royce Prophet who gets pinned. As Crash and Osborne go back to the locker room, Rebel and Gunn go to town on the hapless manager. Flying elbows, several kicks, etc., terminate in a great double DDT on Prophet. Prophet is left unconscious in the ring as ref JUMPIN JOEY DiCARLO, all-purpose ANDY VINEBERG and YOURS TRULY try to shlep the fallen manager out of the ring. Royce finally staggers out of the gym; word is that the double DDT gave him a broken nose (legit). BTW, this is the second night in a row that Royce gets pinned himself, losing a match for his wrestlers.

2 COLD SCORPIO pinned HACK MYERS in 7:37. The battle of the ECW stars. Scorpio gets a tremendous face pop as Hack generates incredible heel heat. Something tells me that on the other side of the Mason-Dixon line things would be a little bit different. Hack attacks Scorpio before the bell and it takes 2 Cold a few minutes to get going. Once he does, he takes complete control and eventually scores a pin after a moonsault.

JACKHAMMER BENTON pins METAL MANIAC (managed by ISIS) in 11:44. Nothing memorable, but some good, solid action.

RAVEN (JOHNNY POLO/SCOTTY FLAMINGO, accompanied by SIGN GUY DUDLEY) pins CHAD AUSTIN (managed by GENERAL STUD LEE) in 6:22. In an apparent reversal of their roles at last month's Bingo Bill's card, Raven establishes himself as a heel by trashing the crowd and the city of Eldersburg (which he called "Liberty City"). Chad, on the other hand, comes out screaming and, as usual, doing his imitation of Old Faithful with the help of a bottle of eau minerale. Sign Guy, unlike last night, doesn't get attacked. Match highlighted by Raven's excellent brawling and Chad's acrobatics, including a running dive (plancha? same-level moonsault? Sorry, but I'm no better than Vince or Bischoff at naming moves.) at floor-level onto Raven with both landing on the hard gym floor. At one point, Raven took some of Chad's eau minerale and did his own geyser imitation on Austin's face. Chad DDT's Raven after the match; but it's Chad who eventually has to stagger back to the locker room screaming all the way. Raven retains his MEWF Mid-Atlantic championship.

JIMMY "SUPERFLY" SNUKA pins PRIVATE PAIN in 4:25. The Private starts out strong; but eventually Jimmy goes into Superfly mode and does all his patented Superfly moves. The Superfly leap off the top rope is followed by a pin. CHAD AUSTIN returns to attack Snuka after the match is over. Jimmy dominates, leaving Chad again to stagger back to the locker room.

THE BAD CREW (managed by DAMIAN KANE and accompanied by a woman the French would describe as "pneumatique") wins the MEWF tag-team championship from THE NEW SENSATIONS (Quinn Nash & Atom Flash) with a pin in 5:10. The Bad Crew is one hard-working tag team, and Damian Kane is a great manager, as my friends from Central Pennsylvania have told me for a couple of years. I hope they stay around here for a while after making their Maryland debuts this weekend. I wish I could tell you more about this match but frankly I was distracted by the presence of Mademoiselle Pneumatique .

Interlude: Another edition of the IRON SHEIK's Persian Clubs Challenge. Before the match I try to drag one of the clubs to a different site outside the ring and almost wind up getting a hernia. He does more than 50 repetitions of the club moves, bettering by more than ten his best from last night's Catonsville card. Three spectators---one built like me, one built like you and one who obviously has weightlifting experience---come to the ring and take the $500 challenge. All guys give up rather quickly.

THE IRON SHEIK (managed by HURRICANE KELLY) forces YET ANOTHER WRESTLING CLOWN to submit to the camel clutch in 6:15. Sheik spent a lot of time outside of the ring imploring the crowd to stop their "USA! USA!" chants. The match would have ended sooner but I was distracted listening to a conversation between MEWF promoter DENNIS WIPPRECHT and my tablemate, ring announcer AL ALBERT; thus, it was about 20 seconds before I realized that ref HANDSOME HOWARD GOLDMAN had been yelling at me to ring the bell since YAWC submitted. Sorry, Your Bozoness.

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT (managed by GENERAL STUD LEE and accompanied by PRIVATE PAIN) retained his MEWF championship by pinning former champ MORGUS THE MANIAC (accompanied by NURSE GRACE and ORDERLY MAURICE) in 9:23. Non-stop brawling, as one could have figured. During the match ref JUMPIN' JOEY DiCARLO gets bumped and while he is unconscious, Morgus rolls up the Corporal for a pin. Another ref, HANDSOME HOWARD GOLDMAN, comes out from the back and counts for the pin. While announcer AL ALBERT is announcing the crowning of a new champion and the Morgus music is cued up, DiCarlo revives and orders the match to continue, saying that Goldman had no authority to count for the pinfall. While Morgus argues, the Corporal rolls him up for a pin; ref DiCarlo doesn't notice that CP's feet were on the ropes for leverage. The two refs argue with each other all the way back to the dressing room.

Now, the main event.....

JIM "THE ANVIL" NEIDHART pins GREG "THE HAMMER" VALENTINE in 9:18. Greg comes out to the old "Honkytonk Man/Rhythm & Blues" music, as Jim comes out to the old "Hart Foundation" theme. They could be an unintentional ad for Hechinger or Home Depot, as the words "the hammer" and "anvil" are embroidered on the backs of their trunks. Action goes back and forth until Valentine goes for the pin using his feet on the ropes for leverage. Unlike the ref in the previous match, ref DAVE "THE WAVE" does notice the illegal maneuver and calls for a break after a 2-count. Valentine, thinking he has won, stands up, raising his hands in victory to the crowd. This pseudo-victory celebration is interrupted when Neidhart goes behind Greg and rolls him up for the pin.

Great action, great crowd reactions. Attendance estimated at 350-400. MEWF tomorrow night at TAFKABB's (The Arena Formerly Known As Bingo Bill's, a.k.a. the MEWF Arena, on the corner of Eastern Avenue and Stemmers Run Road in Essex, east of Baltimore). Events involve most of the wrestlers from the past two nights' cards. One of the highlights is that table match, a Chad Austin-Raven rematch, where one can win only by putting his opponent through a chair.
