(Editor's Note: Aside from a basic spell check these results are being provided in their original form. They were saved from the original IWA mailing list.) November 7th, 1997 By: Jim Fannin The attendance last night was 149 which I felt was very good for the first time in Lexington. Not one fan left disappointed and I think they will all try and return on December 4th when the IWA returns to Lexington. I will say a few things about last night's crowd. They were very well behaved and very hot all night. These people were starved for wrestling and they loved having the IWA here. They would pop for all the spots during the cruiserweight match. They would pop for regular moves like a hip toss. They would explode for a chair or a table spot. Even better than their responses were their behavior. There was only one security guard ringside and there were no problems all night long. Two fans tried to show up Ian but no trouble was started. Now onto the results. The American Kickboxer won the vacant Cruiserweight Title in an excellent three way match against Tyrin and Shark Boy. The action was fast and furious and the crowd needed a little time to get adjusted to what these wrestlers could do. Kickboxer hit a somersault flip over the top rope to the floor on both Tyrin and SharkBoy that started the match off and got the crowd into it. Kickboxer followed up with his spin kick in the corner where he follows through over the top rope and lands on the floor to Shark Boy. Kickboxer returned to the ring only to be clotheslined to the floor by Tyrin. Shark Boy whipped Tyrin into the ropes and connected with a drop toe hold and Kickboxer jumped up to the apron and jump over the ropes and hit Tyrin in the back of the head with a legdrop. The three fought some more and then Tyrin whipped Kickboxer into the ropes and went for a back body drop. Kickboxer leaped frogged over Tyrin but landed on Shark Boy's knee for an atomic drop. Shark Boy then hit Kickboxer with a brainbuster. Shark Boy picked up Tyrin and put him on the top rope and Shark Boy hit the Super Frankensteiner. Shark Boy tried the same to Kickboxer but Kickboxer reversed it into a tigerbomb from the top rope for the pin to eliminate Shark Boy. Kickboxer and Tyrin got chairs and they did a spot where Kickboxer kicked Tyrin's chair up into his face. They then did dueling chairs until Kickboxer drove both chairs into Tyrin's face for the pin and the the title win. Great match and the crowd was hot the whole time. The next match was Rollin Hard vs. Cash Flo in a Falls Count Anywhere match where the TV title was only on the line for the first ten minutes. The match started with both men wrestling. Cash hit a nice clothesline from the middle of the top rope and then followed up with a sidekick. They then went to the violence and used a chair and the crowd went nuts. Cash hit a DDT on the floor but he cracked open the back of his head hardway when he hit the concrete. The action went back into the ring and Rollin got the advantage after hitting his West Side side slam. Rollin then hit a very good spinebuster a la Arn Anderson. Rollin kept on the offensive and hit a DDT and the hot shot but Cash was able to get his foot on the rope with the help of his manager Billy the P. The ten minutes expired for the title but the match still had 10 minutes to go. Cash regained control and set up a table on the floor. The crowd was going nuts anticipating the spot and they weren't disappointed. Cash hit a Diamond Cutter from the ring apron to the floor through the table for the pinfall. The crowd loved the match and they gave both wrestlers a good response. The third match of the evening saw Brett Keen defeat Bobby Martin in a very good wrestling match. Both wrestlers gave a good performance using technical wrestling. Keen started the high impact offense with a vicious clothesline that got the crowd pumped. He followed with a belly to back suplex but Martin was able to hit a spin kick and then a Frankensteiner. They went back to wrestling for a couple of minutes and then Keen whipped Martin into the ropes and then hit a Michinouku Driver for the win.
The next match really got the crowd going as Billy Jo Travis came out to wrestle Steven Dunn. Billy Jo said he was a Richmond, KY native and that he was here to defend Kentucky's honor against Steven Dunn who is from Tennessee. The crowd was eating it up. This match was a wild brawl. They fought on the floor by the ring and in the ring and the fans where 100% behind Billy Jo. The end came when Dunn hit Travis with a chain for the pin. Travis got on the mic and started yelling at Dunn until Doug Gilbert came out. He tried to play peacemaker at first and then Dunn and Gilbert started to doubleteam Travis. They hit him with a superkick and a DDT. Ian Rotten came out to make the save and Billy agreed to be Ian's corner man for the throw in the towel match much to the dismay of the fans. The next match saw a double juicer as Mad Man Pondo defeated Ox Harley. Pondo started the match hitting Ox with his stop sign and then doing the groin bite. The two then went outside to get the ringside furniture and beat each other with chairs. The end came when Ox set up two chairs and then bridged the two chairs with a third chair that wasn't set up. Ox hit the slop drop onto the chair bridge. He went up top for a moonsault but Pondo moved out of the way and Ox hit the fallen chair and was pinned. Ox was angry and attacked Pondo after the match powerbombing him through the chair bridge. The next match was the shocker of the night. Buddy Landell defeated Bull Pain to win the IWA Heavyweight title. This was another match centered on wrestling. The crowd was very pro Landell due to his many performances in the area over the years. The ref got knocked out and Buddy hit Bull with a chain and then clamped on the figure 4. The ref came to and counted the pin on the knocked out Bull Pain. The crowd popped big for the title change. It was main event time and Doug Gilbert entered with his manager for the night, Ben Rich. Rich got on the mic and gave the UK students hell taking great pleasure in being the "most hated man on campus." Rich then introduced Gilbert and it was time for Ian's entrance. This was another great match as Ian and Dougie started out wrestling and building to the violence. Dougie took off his boot and started nailing Ian with it drawing blood. Ben and Dougie kept telling Billy Jo to throw in the towel as Dougie kept working over the cut on Ian's forehead. Ian turns the table and steals Dougie's boot and cuts open Dougie by bashing him with the boot. Ben refuses to throw in the towel for Dougie and keeps mouthing off to Billy Jo. Billy Jo finally has enough and he grabs Ben by the hair and starts dragging him around ringside. The UK students in attendance jump to their feet and start a huge "Kill Rich" chant. The rest of the crowd joins in and the place is going nuts. While Ben is being pulled around ringside, he drops his towel. The ref sees the towel in the ring and calls for the bell declaring Ian the winner. Dougie chases off Billy Jo and Ben gets in the ring to yell at the ref trying to explain that he never "threw" in the towel. Ian came up from behind and tapped Ben on the shoulder. Ben thinking that it was Dougie turned around and was kicked in the stomach. The crowd was going wild and yelling for Ben to get destroyed and Ian obliged by delivered a brutal drop down split leg powerbomb to Rich. The UK students loved it as did the rest of the crowd and Rich had to be helped out by the doctor and security. Overall it was a great show and everyone seemed to love in attendance. I had a great time all day helping with the set up and watching a great show. I can't wait for the December 4th show.
