Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation - November 11, 2000 - Hampstead, MD Print E-mail
Friday, November 10, 2000
Since 1992, the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation puts on one major card each year, at North Carroll High School in Hampstead, MD. Unlike many other schools, the Business Club at NCHS aggressively markets the show it has bought, and the attendance always reflects its marketing success. I arrive there about a half-hour before the start of the show, and the gym is already rather full. Among my fellow spectators, I notice: STEVE VENTURELLA, the voice of Maryland Championship Wrestling; wrestler SHORTY SMALLS; and wrestling fandom's answer to Reverend Jim Ignatowski, BOBBY BAUM, who tells me he is in training at the MEWF wrestling school.

Attendance estimated at 1050-1100. For the Maryland State Athletic Commission, looking as zerputtelt as ever: LOU LEAVEY. Ring announcer: HOWARD "TUXEDO MAN" GOLDMAN. Timekeeper at the bell: GISBSWGTAL (Guy In Strange Black Suit With Gold Trim Around Lapels). Ring attendant: BGIWS (Blonde Girl In White Shirt). Referees for the evening: TANYA STEVENS, SCOTT STATER, MIKE MARK and LOU EUBANKS. Taking ringside pictures: GREG GREENLAND.

MATCH 1: "THE NATURAL" STEVE CAMRY (with SAMBUCCA) vs. DODDIE J. CALDWELL. Steve takes control with a back suplex, Flair chops and a clothesline. When Steve takes time to bait the fans, Doddie counters with a jawbreaker and gets a couple of 2-counts. Camry hits a suplex. Sambucca works over Caldwell on the ropes as the ref is distracted. Doddie hits a corner splash. When he tries another, Camry puts his foot up, and Doddie is so scared that he falls to the ground before the foot can make contact. Steve covers for a 2-count as the ref breaks it up when he sees Steve's leg on the ropes for leverage. Steve tries for a splash, and this time Doddie hits a sunset flip from the top turnbuckle and gets the pin. CALDWELL wins with a pin in 5:42.

Before the next match, TONY HIGHTOWER hits the ring and puts down both North Carroll and the quality of his recent MEWF opponents. He issues an open challenge. Out comes referee TANYA STEVENS, with a red dress folded around her arm, with a deal. She will provide Tony with a suitable opponent, and if Tony loses, he must put on the red dress. He agrees, and out comes some unexpectedly pint-size opposition.

MATCH 2 (sponsored by Laurel Color Plate): TONY HIGHTOWER vs. SHORT DUDLEY. Tony is frustrated in the beginning as his midget opponent pushes him around the ring. He complains, and the crowd chants "Crybaby!" Dudley gets 2-counts after a top rollup and back flip. Hightower retaliates with chokes, stomps, leg drops and an elbow drop. Short guy retaliates with a face buster and the little people's elbow and gets the pin. SHORT DUDLEY wins by pin in 7:44, and Tony exits the ring, to the strains of Abba's "Dancing Queen", wearing that red dress.

MATCH 3 (a ladder match for the light-heavyweight championship, sponsored by White Pine Painting): Champion HURRICANE KID (with JIM CHRISTIAN) vs. RUCKUS. First guy to grab the belt above the ring is the champ. The early part of the match is dominated by chain wrestling: fireman's carries, arm drags, back flips. Kid gains the advantage with a side kick and flying head scissors. Ruckus counters with a ricochet head scissors off the ropes, and Hurricane finds himself outside the ring, where he is an easy target for Ruckus's 360-degree moonsault off the top turnbuckle. Ruckus brings the ladder into the ring. Kid kicks the ladder into Ruckus, then moonsaults off the top rope onto him. Kid then starts to climb the ladder, but Ruckus hits a body block off the top turnbuckle and knocks him off. Sandwiched between the ladder, Hurricane finds himself hit by a Ruckus mutasault. Ruckus hits the still-sandwiched Hurricane with a scissor kick, then climbs the ladder where manager Christian comes in and tries to pull him off. While the ref is trying to restore decorum, Hurricane pulls Ruckus off the ladder. Kid climbs up; Ruckus drop kicks him off. Ruckus moonsaults onto the ladder and Kid. Ruckus thrust-slams Hurricane onto the ladder. Hurricane ddt's Ruckus onto it. Hurricane stomps Ruckus and throws the ladder onto him. Ruckus climbs the ladder and actually gets one hand on the championship belt but is pulled down by Hurricane. Hurricane climbs to the top rung and jumps onto the prone Ruckus. Ruckus back drops Kid onto the floor and leaps off the ring onto both Kid and manager Christian. Back in the ring, Kid delivers a rompecojones. Ruckus recovers and slams Hurricane off the top turnbuckle. He then climbs the ladder and grabs the belt in spite of Christian's efforts to pull him down. Definitely the highlight of the evening, as RUCKUS wins the light-heavy title by grabbing the belt in 12:27.

MATCH 4, for the tag-team belts: champions THE HOLLYWOOD HUNKS ("PLAYBOY" BOB STARR & LUCIFER, KNIGHT OF THE ROAD, with UNIDENTIFIED BLONDE VALET) vs. MORGUS THE MANIAC (with NURSE GRACE & DOC WATSON) & THE PATRIOT. Bob and Lucifer attack Morgus before his attendants can remove the strait jacket, stomping and slamming him until Patriot finally arrives from the back. Patriot cleans house, then joins with Morgus in delivering a double clothesline to the Hunks. Patriot springboards Starr back into the ring, then crotches him on the ring post. Morgus throws Lucifer onto Bob, head over groin, thus delivering an inadvertent flying Lewinsky. The champs argue, and are again pummeled by the challengers. Morgus gets 2-counts on Lucifer before Lucy evens things up with a rompecojones. Blondie hands Bob a foreign object, which he uses on Morgus. A long period of double-teaming follows, as Morgus finds himself bitten, stomped, and choked with tape. Bob starts to get bothered by the crowds "Chucky" chants. Morgus mounts a brief offensive by slamming Bob and getting a 2-count. Finally, Patriot tags in. Bob brings a chair into the ring. Patriot grabs the chair, and gets involved in a tug-of-war with the referee. The chair plonks the ref. Patriot plonks Bob and rolls him up as another referee comes to the ring to count the pin. Goldman has already announced the crowning of new tag champs when the original referee regains consciousness and reverses the result, disqualifying Patriot and Morgus for the use of the chair. HOLLYWOOD HUNKS keep the title with a 11:06 disqualification win. After the match, Patriot grabs blondie and spanks her.

MATCH 5, for the six-man trophy: champions "MAD DOG" BUZZ STRYKER & AGENT ORANGE & OTTO SHTARK (with LADY JENNA) vs. THE NEW AGE INSTRUCTORS ("SCHOOLDOGG" TROY WAREHIME & "WILDMAN" BRIAN WETZEL & "STONE COLD" JOHN PIPER, with SCOTT WARNER). The NAI and their manager are teachers from North Carroll, Wetzel being the highly successful wrestling coach there. They come out to the "New Age Outlaws" theme, wearing "New Age Instructors" shirts. Piper starts out for the teachers and takes a lot of punishment and bumps. Stryker punches the teacher's groinal region. Otto gets several 2-counts on him after a suplex and sunset flip. Schooldogg hits a top-turnbuckle clothesline on Shtark. Otto then recovers to slam and legdrop Warehime for a 2-count. Wetzel tags in, as he and Warehime suplex Shtark. Otto is whipped into a corner. Wetzel tries for a stinkface, but Shtark tries to make him a soprano. He then chokes the coach with a "North Carroll Panthers" t-shirt. Otto hits a top rope splash. Buzz tags in and slams Wetzel, getting a 2-count. Stryker and the coach then clothesline each other. Piper tags in and slams Buzz, getting a 2-count. Piper hits a stunner but is then attacked by Orange. AXL ROTTEN arrives at ringside with a trashcan, which he hands to manager Warner. However, Warner turns on his fellow teachers, hitting Piper with the trash can. Stryker covers for the pin. STRYKER & ORANGE & SHTARK keep the trophy with a 17:26 pin.

After the match, Warner celebrates with the champs but is then turned on, as both the champs and then the Instructors pummel him. CHRIS CANDIDO arrives at ringside and chides Axl for having sided with the teachers against the wrestlers. He challenges Axl to a match later in the card. Axl agrees, with the further stipulation that it will be a lumberjack match, with the teachers as well as the wrestlers being the lumberjacks. Candido tries to get at Axl, but Axl knocks him out with a punch. Candido recovers and is helped to the back.

MATCH 6, for the heavyweight title: champion DINO CASANOVA (with SAMBUCCA) vs. MAX THRASHER, whom he had beaten for the title recently. Dino announces that WWF scouts are in the audience and that he has been promised a WWF contract if he defeats Thrasher again this evening. Dino maneuvers Thrasher into a corner and slaps him. Max pantses Dino. Dino leaves the ring, and is springboarded back in by Max. Max gets a 2-count after a suplex. Dino gets a 2-count after an elbow smash and body block. Dino hits a drop kick. The ref gets in the way of some action and is knocked unconscious. Dino walks the ropes and slingshots Max. He screams into the mike, "I ain't going to Disneyland, I'm going to the WWF!" Dino then covers for a pin, but the ref is still ko'd. Dino then tries to whip Max into a waiting Sambucca, but Thrasher reverses it and it's Casanova who bumps into the manager. Max rolls up Dino for the pin with the referee finally awake enough to count it. THRASHER regains the title with the pin in 7:22.

AXL ROTTEN and TROY WAREHIME return to the ring. Axl announces that CHRIS CANDIDO had suffered some type of seizure and collapsed in the back, was treated by paramedics and was on his way to get further treatment. This is totally legit, not part of any angle. Axl cites his long-time friendship with Candido and asks the folks to pray for his recovery. Rotten announces that the show *will* go on, and there *will* be a lumberjack match.

MATCH 7, lumberjack-style: SALVATORE SINCERE vs. RAYNE. Former WWF stalwart Sincere comes out to the strains of Donna Summer's "I Will Survive" in pink and white trunks and wearing a pink boa around his neck. Sal is taunted by "USA!" chants and starts to leave with BOB STARR. He returns, only to be further taunted as Rayne starts up a "Pinky!" chant. More stalling by a reluctant Sincere has the crowd alternately chanting "USA" and "You are gay". There is a lot of brawling outside the ring. Sal hits a neckbreaker, then distracts the ref as BUZZ STRYKER comes in and clubbers Rayne. Sincere then hits a flying Lewinsky. Ref is still distracted as Starr comes in and hits a neckbreaker on Rayne. Sal misses a charge and Rayne backs Sal into a corner for some punches. Starr then hands Sal a foreign object and Sal plonks Rayne and covers for the pin. SINCERE wins the match in 9:41.

After the match, general mayhem erupts as Axl cleans house by plonking just about every bad guy in sight with a trash can lid.

MATCH 8: MAX MUSCLE vs. VAN HAMMER. The two ex-WCW'ers exchange body blocks. The bald Max complains of a hair pull. Max wins a battle of fingerlocks, but Van hits a couple of body slams. Van pantses Max (second full moon of the evening) and issues several atomic drops to the uncovered tuchus. Max leaves the ring. Muscle comes back in and stomps Van, getting a 2-count after a side suplex. Max puts Hammer in a sleeper for what seems like an eternity, but Van doesn't submit. Van puts on a sleeper of his own, but Max's skull to Van's chin stops that. Another Muscle sleeper is broken up by Van's kick to the crotchal region. A double clothesline. Van gets 2-counts after a kick and flying body block. Hammer hits a leg drop and chicken wing, but Max kicks him. Van then chokeslams Muscle and gets the pin. HAMMER gets the win in 13:26.
