Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation - July 24, 2000 - Dundalk, MD Print E-mail
Thursday, July 13, 2000
On July 14, I celebrete Bastille Day by driving up to the Sher-Wes Gardens in Dundalk, MD, to catch a card put on by the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation, the group I used to ring the bell for before the start-up of Maryland Championship Wrestling.

Attendance is estimated at 175-200, including, once again, many t-shirt-sporting friends and relatives of "MAD DOG" BUZZ STRYKER, who for whatever reason has amassed a sizable cult following. The gimmick table selling Stryker t-shirts seems to be doing a brisk business throughout the night. Particularly vociferous seemto be the "peanut gallery" of elementary-school-age children, all sitting and standing together to the side of the arena. Also observed in the crowd were "Wrestletalk America" co-host "FAT BOY" AL ALBERT, MEWF co-owner RANDY HILL, former MEWF champion JOE THUNDER, and legendary local superfan MIKE OF DUNDALK. For the Maryland State Athletic Commission: LOU LEAVEY. Ring announcer/timekeeper at the bell: "HANDSOME" HOWARD GOLDMAN. The rather overworked referee for all the matches: SCOTT STATER.

After Howard's preliminary announcements, "PLAYBOY" BOB STARR and his manager SAMBUCCA invade the ring. Brandishing a championship belt, Bob announces that he has recently won the AWA World Television Championship. He says that now that he has this prestigious title, he doesn't have to wrestle here anymore, and notices that there is just a blank space under "opponent" listed on the evening's booking sheet for his match. He then peppers the spectators with his trademark insults. MEWF promoter DENNIS WIPPRECHT comes out and tells Bob that indeed, he will have a match tonight against RUKKUS. When Bob balks at this assignment, Dennis tells him that he received a fax from AWA promoter JONNY STEWART this afternoon stating that indeed Bob will defend the TV title tonight and if he doesn't, he will be stripped of the title tomorrow.

MATCH 1: THE DEATH DEALER vs. WHIPLASH. Dundalk's own Whiplash quickly forces the masked Dealer to submit to a Whippler crossface. WHIPLASH by submission in 1:27.

MATCH 2: THE NATURAL vs. RAYNE. The two begin by trading shoulder hauls and power slams. Natural, peppered by taunts of "flubber" from the fans, gets a 2-count after a suplex. Rayne gets his own 2-count after a leg drop. SAMBUCCA comes to ringside and distracts the referee long enough for BOB STARR to run in and club Rayne with his AWA TV championship belt. Natural covers the ref eventually turns around. NATURAL by pin fall in 3:42.

MEWF heavyweight champion LUCIFER comes to the ring and announces that it is time for him to start defending his belt against some of the younger and newer competition in the MEWF. MAD DOG O'MALLEY comes to ringside to disagree with the champ. Lucifer responds that Mad Dog already had that chance a couple months ago and lost in a cage match. O'Malley then blindsides Lucifer and squashes him. He grabs the mike and says that he is ticked that nobody has ever given him a title shot and wants one tonight. (Don't blame me if it doesn't seem to make sense; I'm just reporting the action).

MATCH 3: For the Mid-Atlantic title: challenger NICK "THE CONSTRICTOR" OXENDINE vs. champion "MAD DOG" BUZZ STRYKER (with LADY JENNA). After Buzz slams him, Nick goes out of the ring and the brawl ensues. They exchange slams into the ring barrier. Nick goes after Jenna and gets blindsided by Stryker as the peanut gallery goes wild. Back in the ring, Buzz lands a double ax-handle off the top turnbuckle onto Oxendine on the floor. Nick then side-flips Buzz and with Buzz in the corner, hits a Muta splash. Stryker comes back with kicks and a clothesline. Buzz puts on the camel clutch but can't get Nick to submit. Nick puts on a chicken wing but likewise can't get Buzz to submit; however, he believes that Buzz has submitted and he releases the hold. He argues the point with the referee and gets snap suplexed for the pin. STRYKER keeps the title with a pin in 7:38.

The next match is the scheduled tag team championship match. DINO CASANOVA arrives and finds that his scheduled tag-team partner, MAX THRASHER, is not in the building. He goes backstage to find a substitute partner and returns to reunite with a long-time tag partner as we find that THE GOODFELLAS have been re-formed.

MATCH 4: For the tag team championship: champions THE TOKYO TERRORS (RED & BLUE) vs. THE GOODFELLAS (DINO CASANOVA & ROMEO VALENTINO). The Terrors attack as the reunited Goodfellas hit the ring. Dino retaliates by clotheslining Red. Red kicks and stomps Dino to the floor and gets a 2-count. Romeo tags in and spin-kicks Red to the floor. Red karate kicks Valentino and tags to Blue. Both terrors clothesline Romeo. Fans taunt Valentino with chants of "Homeo". Dino tags in and whips Blue into the ropes with Romeo waiting to dropkick him on the rebound. Tagging back in, Romeo slams Blue and gets a 2-count as Red makes the save. Terrors double-team Valentino, with Red getting a 2-count. They double-karate-kick Romeo to the floor. Blue leaps off the top turnbuckle and is met by Romeo's foot. Tags are made, and Dino hits Red with a flying Lewinsky. Romeo comes back in with a flying elbow drop and gets a 2-count on Red as Blue makes the save. Red and Romeo clothesline each other, with Red recovering first, getting a 2-count as Dino makes the save. Red clotheslines Romeo and they both fall out of the ring. Blue sets up Dino for a move but is blindsided by MAX THRASHER, who has finally arrived. The ref sees it and calls for the bell. TOKYO TERRORS retain the belt with a disqualification win in 9:15.

After the match, the Goodfellas take exception to what Thrasher has done and an argument ensues among the former friends Casanova and Thrasher.

MATCH 5: For the AWA television title: champion "PLAYBOY" BOB STARR (with SAMBUCCA) vs. RUKKUS. Bob starts out strong with headbutts and body slams on Rukkus in the corner. Starr distracts the ref, allowing Sambucca to choke Rukkus. Bob keeps Ruk in a headlock for a long while, keeping leverage with some occasional fingers to the throat. Rukkus counters with a shoulder haul and dropkick, and Bob takes cover, heckling ringsiders along the way. Rukkus misses a Mutasault and Bob follows with a flying Lewinsky. Some of the lights go out in the arena, I don't know if there's any connection. Rukkus tries another Mutasault and hits the target. When Sambucca tries to interfere, Ruckus directs his head into Starr's scrotal area. Starr leaves the ring and is slingshotted back in by Ruk. Ruk then gets a 2-count after a moonsault. Ruk throws Bob into a corner and does a baseball slide. Bob hits a clothesline. With the ref distracted, Sambucca gets in some licks only to find Ruk throwing him into the upraised foot of a front-row spectator. Rukkus then choke-slams Bob and tries to come off the ropes with a splash; however, he is tripped by Sambucca. The ref argues with Sambucca and doesn't observe Sam throwing the championship belt to Bob. Starr clubbers Rukkus and covers for the fall. STARR retains the AWA title with a pin in 13:46.

After the match, the peanut gallery chants "cheater" at Bob, and Bob grabs the mike and yells at the pre-teens, "Shut up, you bastards!" He also announces that he wants Rayne on the next Sher-Wes show.

MATCH 6: MAX THRASHER vs. MORGUS THE MANIAC (with NURSE GRACE & MEDIC MAURICE). It's all Max at the start, as the veteran interrupts Morgus's communing with a turnbuckle. They brawl outside the ring. Max spits a mouthful of Deer Park water at Morgus and follows with face rakes. Morgus hits a side suplex and headbutt and gets a 2-count. ROMEO VALENTINO then invades the ring, attacking Morgus and causing Max to be disqualified in retaliation for Max's causing Romeo's team to be dq'd earlier. MORGUS wins by dq in 2:14.

Romeo takes the mike and yells at Max, "That's what you get, you piece of [fecal matter]." He is joined in a physical attack by partner DINO CASANOVA. They handcuff Max to the top rope and go to town on the spread-eagled Thrasher. They use the timekeeper's bell and clanger in the attack. LUCIFER comes to ringside and runs the Goodfellas off. After much difficulty, they unlock the handcuffs, and an entourage of wrestlers helps Thrasher to the back.

MATCH 7: MR. DESTINY & "MAD DOG" BUZZ STRYKER (with LADY JENNA) vs. BLOOD & FREAK SHOW. Destiny's tag partner didn't make it for the show, so he asks anyone "with enough [gosses quebecoises]" to come out and be his partner; thus, we have the pairing of fan favorite Stryker and fan not-so-favorite Destiny. Destiny starts out by sending Freak out of the ring with punches and a modified enzuguiri. He hits a top-rope double ax-handle onto Freak on the floor. Peanut gallery chants "We want Buzz!" Buzz tags in and hits a suplex and somersault. Destiny hits a clothesline. Stryker gets 2-counts after a suplex and power bomb. Finally, Freak hits a rompecojones and makes the tag. Blood is met by an elbow smash, double clothesline and knee to the testicular region. Blood mounts some offense with an arm drag on Destiny. Stryker tags in and tombstones Blood. Freak tags in and is pinned by Buzz as Destiny suplexes Blood. MR. DESTINY & BUZZ STRYKER in 5:55.

MATCH 8: For the MEWF heavyweight belt: champion LUCIFER (KNIGHT OF THE ROAD) vs. MAD DOG O'MALLEY. After uneven exchanges of early power moves, the champ fells the big guy from Northern Ireland with a couple of Stinger splashes and gets a 2-count. He corners O'Malley and bites him. Mad Dog counters with an Irish whip, clothesline and leg drop. He tries to get Lucifer to submit to a bear hug, but Lucy bell-claps his way out. It takes Lucifer four clotheslines to again put O'Malley to the floor for a 2-count. Dog counters with some slams and goes to the middle turnbuckle for his finishing splash. Lucifer moves out of the way, Dog misses, and Lucifer pins him. LUCIFER keeps the belt with a 3:04 pin fall.

MEWF returns to Sher-Wes Gardens on Friday, September 22, with a 7:30 bell time.
