Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation - September 16, 2001 - Baltimore, MD Print E-mail
Saturday, September 15, 2001
With the Stars and Stripes flying at half-mast outside, Teamsters Hall in Baltimore played host to an evening of Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation action on September 16.

Attendance estimated at 350-375.  Supervising for the Maryland State Athletic Commission:  LOU LEAVEY.  MEWF commissioner:  STUD LEE.  Ring announcer: JEFF CAPO.  Timekeeper at the bell: STEVE MOYER.  Referees for the evening: LOU EUBANK and JOHN STUTZKA.  Also among the spectators: "Pro Wrestling Talk" host AL ALBERT, who assured fans that the show will be back on WCBM after a hiatus of two or three weeks.

The evening began with the entire MEWF contingent coming to ringside as AXL ROTTEN delivered a heartfelt tribute to those who had been victims of terrorism this past week, and to those who had played a part in rescuing others.  After a ten-bell salute, the crowd remained standing as BUZZ STRYKER and RAYNE unfurled the Stars and Stripes and the Whitney Houston version of the Star Spangled Banner was played.

Before ring announcer Capo could announce the first match, EAGLE, PSYCHO GANGSTER, STEVIE RIGGS and JENNA invaded the ring.  After ragging on the Dundalk neighborhood for a while, the attendees of "Jenna University" declared Jenna the new MEWF commissioner, since STUD LEE was nowhere to be found.  When Jenna called for "anyone who has a problem with this" to come to ringside, RAYNE approached.  He said he was tired of "getting screwed" by the MEWF, and demanded a title shot against DINO CASANOVA.  Stevie said they could not oblige; but he did offer Rayne the position of special troubleshooting referee for the scheduled title match between Casanova and BUZZ STRYKER. Jenna and her cohorts then left ringside.

While a still-irate Rayne was interrupting Capo's announcements, he
was attacked by BLOOD, and an impromptu match was on.

MATCH 1:  RAYNE pinned BLOOD after a power slam in 1:02.

MATCH 2:  STEVIE RIGGS (with JENNA) won a four-way match to determine the top contender for the cruiserweight title over HURRICANE KIDD, MR. DESTINY (with A CAN OF LIGHT BEER) and "SURE SHOT" DEREK WAYNE in 4:14..  Destiny was disqualified for being over the cruiserweight limit in spite of his claiming to be a "fit and trim 180 pounds". When Destiny stayed at ringside and beat up Kidd, the referee tended to the injured Hurricane, thus missing what would have been a pin fall by Stevie and a submission maneuver by Derek.  The ref did turn around to see Stevie roll up Derek for the pin.

MATCH 3:  "THE NATURAL" STEVE CAMRY & LUNAR beat SEBASTIAN COVERDALE & JOE THUNDER (with SAMBUCCA) in 13:22, with Natural pinning Coverdale after delivering a full-nelson thrust slam.  After the match, Lunar found himself double-teamed by the sore losers, with Coverdale lip-synching a song while plonking him with the microphone stand. Natural returned to the ring armed with a billy club to chase the bad guys away.

MATCH 4:  RYKER beat RUCKUS in 10:00 of a match where one could win only by successfully executing a 450-degree flip on his opponent. Ruckus actually delivered the first successful 450; but the referee had been temporarily incapacitated.  CAT BURGLAR came out and delivered what could be called a "diamond catter" to Ruckus.  When the referee finally came to, he saw Ryker do a 450 on Ruckus.  As a result of the match stipulations, Ruckus is barred from using the 450 in the MEWF.

During the intermission, I got a close-up look at the Big Japan junior heavyweight belt that Ruckus had won at the CZW show the weekend before.  Ruckus will be defending that belt in Japan next month.

To start the second half, 98-Rock's wrestling commentator DR. BLASPHEMY took the mike to offer words of encouragement to the fans.

MATCH 5:  MORGUS THE MANIAC (with NURSE GRACE,  DOC WATSON and plenty of American flags) held on to the Mid-Atlantic title with a 1:59 pin over BLOOD, who apparently had not gotten his fill of losing earlier in the card.  He got the pin after a chokeslam.

MATCH 6:  THE TOKYO TERRORS (KEUSHIRO & WATSUMI, with FATE), after issuing an open challenge to any two wrestlers in the back, successfully defended the tag team belts against BUSTER MACCABI & MAD DOG O'MALLEY in 9:43.  After Keushiro power bombed Buster, Watsumi delivered a top rope leg drop and covered for the pin.

MATCH 7:  EAGLE & PSYCHO GANGSTER (with JENNA) pinned TOMMY HAWK & STEVIE RIGGS in 3:17.  Self-proclaimed new commissioner Jenna had booked this match as her cohort Stevie never participated in the match, leaving Tommy at the mercy of everyone.

After the match, Hawk was triple teamed until THE HOLLYWOOD HUNKS (LUCIFER & BOB STARR) made the save.  Real commish STUD LEE finally appeared and gave Jenna a hobby-horse spanking.  The Studster then challenged Eagle and Gangster to a grudge tag team match against the Hunks the next card, with Stud Lee to be handcuffed to Jenna during the match.

MATCH 8:  "PURE IMPACT" DEREK FRAZIER beat CAT BURGLAR in 13:01 of a "jailhouse match" in which  the winner was declared after handcuffing his opponent to a ring rope.  One had to score a pin fall before putting the cuffs on one hand to begin with.  Frazier took the first fall after a frog splash, and Cat took the second with an Olympic slam before Derek fully cuffed Cat.

After the match, referee JOHN STUTZKA took out some powder and threw it in Frazier's face, as he helped Burglar beat Frazier up.  RUCKUS came to ringside to make the save.

The last match was scheduled to be DINO CASANOVA defending the MEWF title against BUZZ STRYKER, with RAYNE as special troubleshooting referee; but Dino sent word through his manager FATE that he couldn't bring himself to be at the arena tonight in light of the week's happenings.  Commissioner STUD LEE decided instead to cash in on an open contract he had in his possession and ordered the TOKYO TERRORS to defend the tag belts once again against the two wrestlers that had come to ringside.  That would be unfortunate for the Japanese invaders.

MATCH 9:  "MAD DOG" BUZZ STRYKER & RAYNE  became tag team champions with a 9:33 pin over THE TOKYO TERRORS (WATSUMI & KEUSHIRO, with FATE), Stryker getting the fall as all four men were brawling in the ring.  The show ended with a ringside celebration of the title change as many wrestlers unfurled the flag as "Born in the USA" was played over the p.a. system.

The MEWF returns to Teamsters Hall on Sunday, October 14.
